South-east Sardinia
The Sarrabus, the Sardinia that stayed wild
Between Cagliari and the wild east coast, the Sarrabus is a land of long empty beaches, forest-covered granite mountains, flamingo lagoons and small villages where time seems to have stopped. Both villas make an excellent base.
The beaches
Colostrai & Torre Salinas
Long ribbons of pale sand between sea and lagoons, ~7–11 min from the villas. Barely built up, perfect for long walks and kitesurfing.
Costa Rei
One of Sardinia's finest beaches: 8 km of white sand and turquoise water, with the famous Scoglio di Peppino rock. About 15–20 min.
San Giovanni beach
A large family beach at the entrance to Muravera, with services and restaurants. About 8–12 min.
Sant'Elmo & Cala Sinzias
Towards Castiadas, sandy coves lined with pines and junipers, clear water. About 15–25 min.
Nature & activities
Hiking in the Sette Fratelli range, boat trips to the coves of the east coast, diving and snorkelling, kitesurfing on the lagoon beaches, watching flamingos and Sardinian deer. Colourful markets in Muravera and San Vito, tasting citrus fruit (the famous Muravera oranges) and local wines.
Getting here
Cagliari-Elmas airport is about a 1-hour drive (~60 min). From the airport, take the SS125 'Orientale Sarda' eastwards. A hire car is essential to enjoy the area. Ferries run to Cagliari (from Civitavecchia, Naples, Palermo, Barcelona).
